Yellowstone Part 3

Yellowstone National Park
signs and animals

animals that caused dumbass people to run off the road, or jump out of a car in the middle of the road.
signs that made me laugh...
ok, I guess I should actually post the pictures..oops

okay, the sign is all about preventing bear attacks.  the last item-DO NOT RUN.  I swear butch would have footprints up his back.  maybe if you do take a dog with you that is the appetizer and would distract the bear long enough for you to get out.

this sign was at the fountain pools.  first it made me laugh cause it made me think of pizza hut and their crappy thin crust pizzas.  then I had to laugh at the no diving sign.  temps in some of them were over 300 degrees, plus, I really don't think you could dive in them even if it wasn't!

and to think he really didn't want me to put pennys in any new concrete we put in at home.  imagine the guy who came to knock the forms off the next day here.

moldy bison
might as well take a picture since all traffic comes to a screeching halt anytime someone thinks they see an animal in the distance.

and yes, they were here too.

elk down in a hollow.  there's actually a baby in there to the left

backside of an elk.  she wouldn't turn around and smile.

look into the pic and see the brown blob in the middle.  this was the bugger that caused all kind of problems for us while trying to get into the campground one day.  ranger with tranquilizer gun and later the gunshot probably had this guy waking up the next morning with a hangover.

yeah, I know I should have worked some of these pictures before I posted them.
this is a pronghorn antelope we saw when we were in the Tetons.

again, no swimming, which I guess means you can't dive either.
this was a dangerous ground warning sign that you saw all over the park.

here's a blow up of it.  I know, I know, it's not supposed to be funny.
but seriously?  dad not watching the kids, in fact he seems to be trying to leave them.  dumbass little brother trying to stand on a geyser to see what would happen.  sister on boardwalk either tattling on d-a brother, or laughing at him cause she dared him to do it.  and where's mom?  it's the one time she asked dad to watch the kids while she went to the bathroom!

9-22 June Part 1

Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone, Wyoming

12 days at Yellowstone....
no cell phone, no Internet, and an occasional Bing on the text messaging depending on where we drive in the park.  thankfully, we had satellite so I didn't have to tranquilize butch.

Yellowstone Lake behind the Fishing Bridge visitors center

one of the hot springs/vents on the east entrance side

view from Lake Butte overlook, or as butch kept calling it, lake butt

Old Faithful.  we only stayed for one eruption since it was blowing 40mph winds AND snowing (flurries)

hot spring

these are geysers that are actually in the lake

Black Pool
I know it doesn't look black but it is around the edges from the sinter.
had a nice chat with a couple wearing ravens sweatshirts.  they were from dundalk.

Upper Falls in the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone

Lower Falls

Dragons Mouth Spring

Old Faithful on the day we actually walked around the geyser basin

Sawmill Geyser

Lions Geyser
it went off while we were right in front of it, which was cool cause it has no timetable that predicts its eruption

Gibbons Falls

Kneppler Falls

a wonderful friend of mine slipped some money in a going away card when I left work.  she, of course, would not take it back. (I will ALWAYS love a tough ole' broad!)  so, I hung onto it and this was what I bought with it.  no, not the falls, the hat!  it's big and doofy and I love it cause it keeps the sun off my face and when I have the sunglasses on, the hoards of fans that would constantly be bothering me, don't recognize me!  LOL
LOVE YOU ALWAYS NB!
oh, and since I forgot to bring a coat with me, there are plenty of pictures with me wearing the same blue sweatshirt.  and to think I nagged butch to make sure he didn't forget his, he's not let me forget that!

12 June

Island Park, ID
We're heading into Yellowstone today.  I don't know how much I will be able to connect, since it is a National Park and not private, there is no wifi.  Also, don't know if there will be enough cell phone coverage to get hooked up through them either.  So, I may not be around for the next 12 days.  Just have to play it by ear, as always...
We've been fortunate that we haven't hit a lot of rain on our trip.  In fact, the last time we saw real rain was in Tennessee.  But, last night, just about the time butch put the steak and hamburger on the grill, it happened.  It rained enough that my poor black subie, which had been a nice shade of dirt, is now a polka-dotted mudpie.  I'm sitting here and it's thundering like crazy.  Loud.
We went from 112 in the shade at Zion, to turning on the furnace this morning.  It was 63 degrees in here when the neighbors diesel truck cranked up at 6:15a.  course, butch sleeps through it, or just rolls over and starts snoring again, but i'm wide awake.  actually, I already was, but it was cold before furnace and I was snuggled down, warm in bed, so I was trying not to get up.
so, we'll pack up for somewhere around the 15th time (we're actually figuring it out) and head up to Montana and the into Wyoming and the park.
till next time....

me-Zion
we hiked up to the narrows but didn't have shoes to wade the river.
me=backpack, camera, bottles of water, gps, phone, sunscreen
him=cell phone

9-11 June

Salt Lake City, UT

ok
it's butch
we needed to drive 300 miles round trip to see Bonneville Salt Flats

Salt Lake-it was 100 degrees (a record high) when we were there, but there was still snow on mountains-crazy.

i really have no words for it-lol.  we walked out on it and the salt is like paste with a crust on it.  he was grossed out cause i tasted it.  it was salty.  no shit-huh?

2-9 June

Zion National Park
Springdale, UT

HOT crazy hot, never below 100 in the afternoon, so we were out and about early in the day and then hid in the air conditioning in the afternoon.

Interstate 15 from Vegas to Zion.
Where the hell is this road going??

Zion

The Organ

it was named this because it was on the front menu of the lodge and everyone asked where the "menu falls" were, so the name stuck.

Virgin river

Angels Landing
its was said that it was where the angels gathered
