Lurgens

Butch and I headed off to Lurgens (Amish) greenhouse bright and early last Saturday. We wanted to beat the hoards of people that rush the place as it gets into afternoon. I got herbs for my kitchen garden and flowers for the big pots I sit on our patios, the hanging pots, and all the garden around the bubbling water jug. I got SOME! flowers. Thought I made it out of there with just under a hundred dollars, but noooo, I just had to go back to look at a new pump for the water jug. Course, then butch found some things ON SALE! that we just had to get so rack up another 70 bucks. But, it makes me smile, so pay it and keep on going. (lessons i learn from butch) We've been running around that we haven't gotten anything in the ground yet. Tomorrow, hopefully.
On the way home from the greenhouse, butch says, we ought to go up over the mountain (west) and go to the Milky Way for lunch. Well, since it's getting to be strawberry season, he never has to ask me twice to go there for the fresh strawberry sundaes. The only thing is though, he said we were going to go over the mountain via Bear Valley. Ok, now, we were in the truck. I really should have known what we were going to be in for, since he said, the trucks dirty anyway. So we go up the mountain through Upper Strasbourg, and up and up and we get to the top and there is a sign on the left that says Bear Valley State Park (forest?). I am NOT exaggerating when I say that the road was 20 miles (or longer) of dirt and gravel. It was pretty and I did enjoy it. We saw a couple of hawks, and a whole lot of trees. We stopped where there was a piece of pvc pipe sticking out of the side of the mountain and it had water just pouring out of it. So of course, we just had to taste it. (insert eye roll here) So if you hear I've ended up with some kind of super bug only found in the mountains of PA, you know just where I picked this up. I'm serious about the distance, I thought we'd never come out from the trees. And the ferns are all new green and still spaced out-unlike summer when it looks like billowing clouds of green. (How's that for a metaphor?)

oh, and they finally came today and installed the new compressor in our heat pump-just can't wait for that bill to show up, but if we need it (and we really haven't except in the morning in the bathroom) we now can have heat or ac!

Bonanza Extravaganza

Again, I don't win any prizes at the big fireman's weekend. I came 4 numbers away from winning a Harley Fat Boy, but no, someone else has to roar off on it. Can't you just picture me TRYING to ride a motorcycle-big Harley or not! NOT!
There were no injuries this year, no major rivers running through our campsite. After last year, we went for the high and dry spots. We took the motorhome down on Thursday night, as they had the area secure, so we weren't worried about leaving it there overnight. (i was worried until we went down there and saw it would be ok)
Again, no pictures to protect the not so innocent.
Butch's buddy, the one, the only, James R Mills had staked out the camping sites and had everyone organized as to how they were going to park. as jimmy said, "this ain't my first rodeo, babe". jimmy also brought his usual assortment of home made wines. this year he had red raspberry, mandarin orange (again), and a huge jug of my favorite, blackberry. jimmy kinda held back on passing the blackberry around for everyone to try, so he could have me bring it home, since he knew it was my favorite. brought damn near half a gallon home! I'll tell you what, that is some damn good fortified wine. he kept asking me if i wanted some, and i kept telling him, well, just half a glass. At one point Friday night, butch had gone to bed, jimmy' wife had gone to bed, and one of the guys stayed because there was no way i was letting him drive home. there was still a bunch of us hanging out by the fire, when someone said, "what time is it?" and got an answer of quarter after three. i turned to jimmy and said, "i need to go to bed-now!" he said "okay, but would you like a little more wine?", to which i replied----"well, maybe half a glass!!!" maybe that's what he needs to name the blackberry-"Half a Glass"
but once again, we came home empty handed from the prizes. I'd love to bring one home, but that's just not my luck!

Three weeks

Time is getting busy.

Last weekend we took the motorhome up the road to a semi-local campground to get it up and running for the year. This little campground is owned by an older couple who has got to be in their 90's. It's tough, cause you can tell they really can't keep care of it anymore. Butch called early in the week to tell them we were coming up on Saturday, and the woman said something about they were pretty full, but that they'd squeeze us in somehow. I thought that maybe she had been kidding with him, as the last time we were there, there was only 3 campers there including ourselves. But, we trundled up the road on Saturday morning, and up in one field as we approached the campground was a field just full of cars. Then I looked down to the campground and it was indeed full. Seems that we wandered into the Cumberland Valley Antique Tractor Associations spring weekend. It was pretty cool. We walked up and watch some "garden" tractor pulling, and walked around checking out the big flea market deal they had going on with it. Butch walked up to about 1/2 acre of tools and thought he'd gone to heaven. I was like----Step away from the tools, and keep walking!!!. But, "we" needed an axe for the motorhome so that when we have campfires he can hack up the wood. "Whatever Earl!"
We just got home this afternoon, from Richmond and the Nascar race there. Again, we sat in rain at Richmond. Someone needs to write a country song called that...."Rain in Richmond"
The race was pretty good, except a putz won. But it was cool and damp. We've been drying out all afternoon.
Next weekend is the annual Fireman's Bonanza Bash, which is just a big excuse for a bottomless beer mug and a weekend to drink. Okay, not really, but the fireman in the area have this drawing and they give away like 800,000 bucks worth of prizes. How is that possible you say, well tickets are $100. They give prizes every 5 minutes, and the crappiest prize is $1000. They give away a bunch of cars, harleys, travel trailers, and bunches of money. the big prize at the end is $100,000. I almost won $5000 bucks last year, but they were just toying with me, and called the wrong last number. We're taking the motorhome down and boondocking there for the weekend. Of course, rain is in the forecast again. Last year, they had a terrible lightning and rain storm. Cross your fingers.
The end of this month is particularly special as Butch's middle son, and his wonderful woman are finally making it official and getting married. Pig roast on June 6th for the celebration.
As usual, to damn busy for our own good.
oh, and Butch's laid off weeks continue off and on. I've been lucky, so far, and still have my job.

Somebody please buy a crane on a mack truck!!!
